How to Adress Performance Issues

It is important as a manager to make sure that your employees always know how they are performing at work. Managers should address performance issues that include consistent failure to meet job responsibilities, poor quality of work, low productivity, lack of engagement or motivation, inability to collaborate effectively with team members, and repeated absenteeism or tardiness. Additionally, they should be attentive to any behavior that undermines team dynamics or organizational goals, as these can significantly impact overall performance and morale.

What is best way to address performance issues with an employees?

  1. Identify the root cause of the issue. Gather specific examples.

  2. Communicate with the employee. Explain the issue with examples.

  3. Offer support or resources to help resolve the issue.

  4. Set clear expectations for the employee’s role.

  5. Follow up regularly and offer support or coaching as needed.

Remember to stay calm, focused on specific job performance (not personality traits), communicate clearly, professionally and with empathy. Employees want to do good work, and as a manager it is your role to help them be successful and provide them with the resources they need.
